Kebbi Calls for Nationwide Prayers as Hunt for Abducted Schoolgirls Continues

Kebbi State has appealed to citizens across all religious backgrounds to intensify prayers for the safe return of students kidnapped from Government Girls Comprehensive Secondary School, Maga.

The State Commissioner for Religious Affairs, Sani Aliyu, made the appeal on Friday at the Government House in Birnin Kebbi. He urged clerics, worshippers, and religious communities to engage in continuous prayers, describing the situation as one that requires deep spiritual focus.

According to Aliyu, the scale of the challenge facing the state demands divine intervention alongside ongoing efforts by government and security agencies. He noted that there are moments when human actions alone are insufficient and asked Islamic scholars and Imams to include continuous Qunut during daily prayers, particularly at night. He also encouraged Christian pastors and clergy to dedicate prayer moments during services for peace in Kebbi and across Nigeria.

Aliyu asked residents to remain alert, avoid contact with criminal groups, and report suspicious activity to security agencies, stressing the need for unity and moral responsibility.

He extended condolences to the families of the abducted girls and expressed appreciation on behalf of Governor Nasir Idris to the many delegations that visited the state in solidarity. Those visitors included Vice President Kashim Shettima, members of the Progressive Governors’ Forum led by Governor Hope Uzodimma, NLC leadership under Joe Ajaero, and Minister of State for Defence Mohammed Bello Matawalle.

Governor Idris also took part in Friday prayers in Argungu, where special supplications were offered during the commissioning of the renovated Jumu’at Mosque. Meanwhile, the District Head of Maga, Muhammad Sanid Dantani, announced that the community will hold its own special prayer session for divine intervention and the safe return of the schoolgirls.
