Autopsy Confirms Murder Of Ondo Ex-Governorship Candidate Akingboye As Police Detain Deceased’s Family Members, Aides

CP Jimoh said that following the receipt of the autopsy reports, investigators were prepared to move forward with the next phase of the case.

The Lagos State Police Command said that autopsy and toxicology reports have confirmed the murder of the former Social Democratic Party (SDP) governorship candidate in Ondo State, Bamidele Akingboye.

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Olorundare Jimoh, while speaking in an interview with Channels TV on Saturday, said that the police had received the autopsy and toxicology reports.

CP Jimoh said that following the receipt of the autopsy reports, investigators were prepared to move forward with the next phase of the case.

He revealed that the police had received the autopsy results conducted on September 11, 2025, which, alongside other findings, prompted the arrest and re-detention of seven out of the 14 Akingboye’s family members earlier invited for questioning.

The CP, who also said that some aides to the deceased are also being detained, noted that the Directorate of Public Prosecution (DPP) is expected to provide legal advice that would guide the next steps in the case.

SaharaReporters had reported that there was fresh outrage over the investigation into the suspicious death of former Ondo State governorship candidate and prominent businessman, Akingboye (OBA).

This was after his eldest son, Samuel Akingboye, accused the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Moshood Jimoh, of playing what he called “rogue games” to manipulate and derail justice.

In a detailed press statement released on November 13, 2025, and obtained by SaharaReporters, Samuel said that more than nine weeks after his father’s death, the Lagos Police Command has deliberately frustrated the investigation, withheld key findings, and allegedly shown bias in favour of the main suspects — his stepmother and stepbrothers.

“My name is Samuel Akingboye, first son and eldest child of late Otunba Bamidele Akingboye OBA,” the statement began.

It continued: “I address the public today with a heavy heart, compelled by circumstances surrounding my father’s tragic and suspicious death, and the disturbing chain of events that have followed.”

He narrated in detail how events unfolded on the day of his father’s death and how police authorities had since handled the case with what he described as “a shocking level of irregularity.”

Earlier, detectives from the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba, had arrested and interrogated nine close family members and aides in connection with Akingboye’s death.

Among the issues that raised suspicion during the investigation was a N50million transfer made from the deceased’s account, allegedly shared among some immediate family members shortly before his death.

“With the toxicology findings concluded, we await advice from the DPP so prosecution can begin against anyone found culpable of murder,” CP Jimoh said.

Akingboye, who died on September 3 under unclear circumstances, was reportedly found dead in the backyard of his Lagos mansion.

His first son, Samuel Akingboye, who resides in Ondo State, also alerted the police and demanded a comprehensive probe to unravel the mystery surrounding his father’s death, while some of his family members said they believed the police would conduct a thorough investigation to uncover the truth.

Reiterating the police’s commitment to justice, CP Jimoh assured the public that the police would “uncover the truth and bring anyone involved to justice.”
