AnambraDecide2025: EFCC arrests three suspected vote buyers
The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested three suspects for allegedly engaging in vote buying during the Anambra State governorship election held on Saturday.
The anti-graft agency disclosed this in a statement posted on its official Facebook page on Saturday.
The arrests followed allegations by the governorship candidate of the African Action Congress, Chioma Ifemeludike, who claimed that there was widespread vote buying during the exercise.
PUNCH Online earlier reported that Ifemeludike alleged that some voters were selling their votes for as little as ₦3,000 to ₦5,000, while the process was allegedly “supervised” by unidentified agents.
Announcing the arrest, the EFCC stated that the suspects were apprehended in different parts of the state.
The statement read, “Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission have arrested three suspected vote buyers in various parts of Anambra.
“The suspects are: Emeka Ilokasia, arrested at Ward 2, Njikoka Local Government Area; Nwachukwu Loretta, arrested at Ward 2 (008), Awkuzu, Oyi Local Government Area; and Emuka Chuwudi, arrested at Umunachi Village, Dunukofia Local Government Area.
“All the suspects were arrested while participating in the governorship election held on Saturday, November 8, 2025.”
The EFCC added that the suspects would be charged in court upon the conclusion of ongoing investigations.
