Pastor Wale Adefarasin Responds to U.S. Remarks on Nigeria’s Religious Situation
The Senior Pastor of Guiding Light Assembly, Pastor Wale Adefarasin, has responded to former U.S. President Donald Trump’s recent comments about alleged religious persecution in Nigeria.
In a video shared on Monday, Pastor Adefarasin urged the public to view the situation with balance, saying such challenges are not new in the country.
He said, “For 40 years that I have been a Christian, there have been kllngs in southern Kaduna, kllngs on the Plateau, there have been r!0ts. Sometimes, I think it was in France, an image of Prophet Muhammad was defaced. Who remembers that? And as a result of that, there were kllngs of Christians in Nigeria.”
The cleric emphasized that the issue should not be exaggerated, noting that some Western reports make it appear worse than it is.
“It’s nothing new. It doesn’t amount to g£n0c!d£,” he said. “The way the West are talking about it, it’s as if if a Christian steps on the street, his head will be blown off.”
He also questioned the United States’ renewed interest in Nigeria’s internal matters, asking if it might be linked to the country’s growing economic strength.
“I’m trying to understand this sudden love for Christians. Is it because we now have one of the largest refineries in the world, or because of the minerals used to power electric vehicles?” he asked.
