Chairman Owolabi Joins “Idebi Oba” Onirun Anniversary Celebrations
The “Idebi Oba” anniversary of the Onirun of Irun Akoko, held on October 18, 2025, at the palace of His Imperial Majesty, Oba Samuel Agboola, was a resounding success. The event brought together indigenes, dignitaries, and guests to celebrate Irun’s rich cultural heritage and usher in a renewed era of unity and development for the ancient kingdom.
Festival Highlights
Display of the Ancestral Crown: The event featured the presentation of the revered crown worn by past monarchs, symbolizing the deep royal lineage of Irun.
Presentation of Kolanut (Obi): His Imperial Majesty performed the traditional presentation of kolanut to the chiefs — a gesture of respect, peace, and homage to the throne.
Cultural Performances: Guests were treated to captivating traditional displays, including Ajagbo, Ikase Ogun/Ibeegun, Lilu Agba, and Ikunlerubo, showcasing the community’s vibrant cultural identity.
Fundraising for Development: A successful fundraising segment was held to support ongoing and upcoming development projects in the town.
In his royal address, Oba Samuel Agboola expressed heartfelt appreciation to the people of Irun, both at home and abroad, for their steadfast support. He commended the Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Lucky Aiyedatiwa, for his visionary leadership, and the Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji Ojo, for his enduring contributions to the community’s growth.
Delivering his goodwill message, Hon. Model Esan Owolabi, Executive Chairman of Akoko Northwest Local Government Area, emphasized the significance of celebrating Irun’s cultural identity while fostering collective progress. He thanked all attendees for their presence and pledged his administration’s continued dedication to good governance and community development.
Chairman Owolabi expressed gratitude to the people of Irun for their unwavering support during his electoral journey. He reaffirmed his commitment to promoting sustainable development and urged traditional rulers to collaborate with the local government in enhancing internally generated revenue for better service delivery. Stressing the importance of security, he encouraged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities to authorities.
The Chairman also extended his appreciation to Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa for his transformative efforts across Ondo State, and to all traditional rulers, Iyalajes, Iyalojas, party leaders, and dignitaries who graced the memorable occasion.
