The Nigeria Army has confirmed the death of one of its officers , Lieutenant Samson Haruna from injuries he sustained when his wife set their apartment on fire in the heat of a domestic squabble on September 22,2025. Captain Lawal Muhammad, Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Headquarters 2 Brigade, Uyo in a statement confirmed that the officer was first evacuated to the hospital after initial treatment at the base but died from his injuries on Tuesday October 7,2025

The Nigerian Army expresses deep sadness and strongly condemns the tragic death of Lieutenant Samson Haruna, the Regimental Medical Officer of 6 Battalion, who died from severe burns sustained during a domestic dispute with his wife at Wellington Bassey Barracks, Ibagwa, Akwa Ibom State, on 22 September 2025.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the incident occurred after a heated argument between the couple, allegedly stemming from a family crisis. The altercation reportedly escalated when Mrs. Retyit Obadiah Dalong Samson Haruna set ablaze household properties, and the officer was caught in the inferno.Family games
Lieutenant Haruna was initially stabilized at the Battalion Medical Facility before being evacuated to the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries in the early hours of Tuesday, 7 October 2025.
The Nigerian Army strongly condemns this act of domestic violence, recognizing the imperative of peaceful coexistence and mutual respect within families.
