Northern Coalition for good Governance Advocates Support for Tinubu Administration

The Northern Coalition for Good Governance has rallied in support of the Tinubu administration’s policies and programs. At a press conference held in Bauchi on Saturday, July 20, 2024, the coalition’s national leader, Teekay Adams, emphasized that the Tinubu government’s initiatives are set to bring significant positive changes to Nigeria’s economic landscape.

Adams urged Northerners not to be misled into believing that Tinubu is responsible for the country’s hardships. Instead, he encouraged support for the administration to enable it to effectively reposition Nigeria for the benefit of both current and future generations.

He highlighted Tinubu’s courage in addressing issues that previous administrations had avoided since the advent of democracy in 1999. Adams pointed out that even former President Muhammadu Buhari who had criticized fuel subsidies under Goodluck Jonathan in 2012, and led a protest against increased in pump price and removal of fuel subsidy and called it *Fraud* lacked the political will to eliminate them during his own tenure.

The coalition leader called on Nigerians, particularly those in the North, to give Tinubu the benefit of the doubt and allow him time to complete his reforms, which are expected to yield results in the coming months. He also urged governors across the country, especially in the northern states, to utilize the over 50% additional allocation from the federation account as a result of fuel subsidy removal to improve the lives of their constituents, rather than allowing them feel President Tinibu is responsible for their being disconnected from the central government.

Key measures implemented by the Tinubu administration include:
– A wage award of ₦35,000 was approved for all federal civil servants on may 29th 2023.
– Distribution of ₦200 million to federal lawmakers in December 2023 to provide rice for their constituencies.
– ₦10 billion allocated to all 36 states and the FCT on June 1st, 2024, democracy day anniversary to purchase palliatives to alleviate the high cost of living.
– Plans to deploy Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) buses nationwide to address transportation costs,
Recently Mr Michael Oluwagbemi, Chief Executive Officer/Programme Director, Presidential Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) Initiative, says 30,000 CNG conversion kits have been procured to be distributed to commercial drivers within 90 days.
We have been across over 14 states, we have been to Ilorin, Ekiti, Lokoja, Aba and Port Harcourt; we have been to the South-East even to the North.
“We are confident we have built a national movement for this conversion.
which Will significantly impact food prices when cost of moving people and goods goes down.
– Distribution of trucks of fertilizer and 20 trucks of rice to farmers and states governments respectively, to support agriculture and alleviate food shortages.
– A new minimum wage of ₦70,000, reflecting a 133% increase from the previous ₦30,000, as a sign of the government’s commitment to improving public welfare.

Adams also addressed recent plans by unscrupulous individuals planning to protests, urging that since the elections are over, any grievances should be reserved for the 2027 elections. He emphasized that the President’s efforts are evidence of his understanding of the difficulties faced by Nigerians and urged patience and support to realize the “Renewed Hope” agenda for a better Nigeria.
