According to the Nigerian Constitution and electoral guidelines, any individual seeking to contest for the position of Chairman of a Local Government Council must:
Be a citizen of Nigeria
Be at least 30 years old
Be educated up to at least the School Certificate (WASSCE) level or its equivalent
Be a registered member of a political party and be sponsored by that party
