Appoints AIG Nkechi Eze as First Director of Newly Created Force Medical Services Directorate
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has approved the appointment of Assistant Inspector-General of Police (AIG) Nkechi Eze as the first Director of the newly established Directorate of Force Medical Services, marking a major milestone in the Nigeria Police Force’s healthcare reform initiative.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, the appointment follows the recent upgrade of the Police Medical Section to a full-fledged Directorate — a move aimed at strengthening medical infrastructure and ensuring comprehensive healthcare delivery for police personnel across the country.
Egbetokun, while congratulating AIG Eze on her historic appointment, urged her to bring her wealth of clinical and administrative experience to bear in building the Directorate into a benchmark for excellence in law enforcement healthcare systems.
“This appointment is a testament to AIG Eze’s distinguished service, professionalism, and dedication to the welfare of police personnel,” Hundeyin quoted the IGP as saying.
AIG Eze, a renowned clinician, dental surgeon, and administrator, brings over 27 years of exemplary service to her new role.
Born in Umuahia, Abia State, and hailing from Agbudu in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State, Eze holds a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) from the University of Ife (now Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife) and a Master’s degree in Public Health (MPH) from the University of Benin.
Her illustrious career has seen her serve across several police medical formations in Oyo, Ekiti, Rivers, the Federal Capital Territory, and Lagos, where she has made notable contributions to improving police healthcare delivery and officers’ welfare.
Egbetokun noted that the establishment of the Directorate of Force Medical Services underscores the Force’s renewed commitment to the well-being, morale, and operational efficiency of its personnel — which he described as “a strategic investment in national security and police productivity.”
With this appointment, AIG Eze becomes not only the pioneer head of the Directorate but also a trailblazer in advancing institutional healthcare within Nigeria’s law enforcement system.
